S W O O N

Exposição de Ilustração
inaugura no próximo sábado, dia 1 de Outubro
Rua da Atalaia, n31
Lisboa

Swoon stands for fainting or collapse and comes as the subject for this Illustration exhibition.
In this exhibition I propose a series of portraying real or invented characters in the moment of suspension between ecstasy and loss of consciousness. The reason for this particular fainting is related to the contemplation of something that is not mentioned in the drawing, here the narrative is created by the absence, foreseeing only the expression of these ambiguous characters. The ambiguity is reinforced by some irony where the pain can be confused with pleasure or where when delirious blends with ecstasy.
Swoon will try to explore what Stendhal (pseudonym of Marie-Henri Beyle) defined as a psychosomatic disorder.
This definition, known as the Stendhal syndrome, was first published in 1817, after a trip to Italy in his book "Naples and Florence: a journey from Milan to Reggio" where Stendhal describes his experience as follows: "Absorbed in the contemplation of such sublime beauty, I reached the point where I came across the heavenly sensations. I had palpitations, my life seemed to drain away .... "
